SINGAPORE – Something Wicked comes this way again.

The Australian production of the popular Broadway musical is returning to Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands in March 2025. Based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel of the same name, the musical spins off the classic tale of The Wizard Of Oz and tells the story of what happened before Dorothy stepped into the land of Oz and its capital, the Emerald City.

It focuses on the girlhood, friendship and rivalry between Galinda, who later becomes Glinda the Good Witch, and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. It features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman.

The musical originated on Broadway in 2003, with Kristin Chenoweth in the role of Galinda and Idina Menzel as Elphaba.

Since then, it has been performed in 16 countries for over 67 million people, and has become the fourth longest-running show on Broadway. Known for hit songs such as Defying Gravity and Popular, the musical was staged in Singapore at Marina Bay Sands in 2011 and 2016.

A wait-list to be first in line to purchase tickets for the 2025 show is open at

until midnight on Aug 11. General sales begin on Aug 16 at 10am.

There will be several rounds of pre-sales with discounted ticketing. The official bank partner of Wicked, UOB, is offering exclusive priority access sale on Klook for UOB cardmembers in Singapore and Asean, who purchase tickets via the travel platform on Aug 12 from 10am.

UOB cardmembers can also buy tickets from Marina Bay Sands Ticketing and Sistic from Aug 13 at 10am. Both pre-sales run till Aug 18 midnight and UOB cardmembers can get a 20 per cent discount during this period.

Those who subscribe to the wait-list will receive a 15 per cent discount during the pre-sale from Aug 13 to 18 via Marina Bay Sands Ticketing. Klook members will also receive a 15 per cent discount during the same period when they buy through Klook.

The show will arrive in Singapore after a big-budget Hollywood movie adaptation of the musical. The film Wicked, which stars pop star Ariana Grande as Galinda and Oscar-nominated actress Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, is slated to open in Singapore cinemas on Nov 21.

Ms Chantal Prudhomme, chief executive of the musical’s presenter Base Entertainment Asia, says: “Wicked will enchant both returning fans, who will rediscover the magic anew, and newcomers, who are about to embark on an unforgettable journey into the Emerald City for the very first time.”
