Chinese actor Yu Menglong from Eternal Love died after fall from friend’s flat

Chinese actor-singer Yu Menglong has died after a fall, reportedly from the fifth floor of a Beijing residence. He was 37.

On the evening of Sept 11, his management team confirmed his death via a Weibo post. It read: “With unbearable sorrow, we announce that our beloved Menglong fell to his death on Sept 11. The police have ruled out any criminality. We hope he rests in peace and his loved ones remain strong.”

According to a now-deleted Weibo post by a paparazzo, Yu had dinner at a friend’s home on Sept 10 with five or six others. After 2am, he went into one of the bedrooms to sleep and locked the door.

When his friends were leaving the flat at 6am, they found his body on the ground floor. A neighbour who was walking his dog had called the police and investigations are ongoing, the post read.

In a subsequent post, also deleted, the paparazzo said he had interviewed a staff member of the estate’s property management. According to the staff, Yu fell from the flat around 5am and died instantly. The flat’s window mesh was broken.

Born in the city of Urumqi in China, Yu entered show business in the late 2000s. He participated in the reality singing competition My Show in 2007, and made it to the top 16 in the Xi’an division. He released his first single Just Nice in 2013.

However, acting turned out to be his stronger suit. He made his acting debut with the short film The Little Prince (2011), and found fame playing the ninth prince in the Chinese historical web drama Go Princess Go (2015).

In the hit fantasy-romance drama Eternal Love (2017), he played the wine-loving fourth son of the Fox King.

In 2019, Yu took on the role of the scholar Xu Xian in a television adaptation of the Chinese folk legend Legend Of The White Snake.

He acted in the period web drama Hidden Master, which was released in April.
