Chinese actor Zhang Linghe and actress Tian Xiwei, who starred in the popular web series Pursuit Of Jade, have penned their thoughts after its conclusion on March 30.
The period drama was adapted from a romance novel of the same name by Chinese author Tuanzi Laixi. In it, Zhang plays fallen noble Xie Zheng, who goes by the alias Yan Zheng, while Tian plays Fan Changyu, a butcher’s daughter.
Xie Zheng agrees to marry into Changyu’s family to repay her for saving his life. Driven by mutual benefits, the marriage of convenience leads to a subsequent love story and a battle for their future.
The 40-episode show has dominated viewing charts since its premiere on March 6 on platforms such as iQiyi and Netflix.
Zhang, 28, took to Chinese social media platform Weibo on March 30 to express his thoughts on the drama.
“Today marks the finale of Pursuit Of Jade,” he wrote. “It’s truly heartening to hear so many people say that watching the series has warmed their hearts and lifted their spirits. I’m delighted that our work has been able to evoke such feelings.”
Zhang said he felt as if he had returned to snowy Xigu Lane, a major setting in Pursuit Of Jade, while watching the drama in the past few weeks.
“As for Xie Zheng, just like his father, he has become a man who guards his homeland with courage, integrity and magnanimity,” Zhang wrote. “Even more fortunate is that, like his parents, he has found the person he wishes to protect for the rest of his life.”
Thanking fans for loving the show and Xie Zheng, Zhang added: “I hope in the future, whenever you think of Pursuit Of Jade, it will be as though you have returned to Lin’an (the town in the show), bringing warmth to your heart.”
Meanwhile, Tian took to Weibo later on March 30, writing as if she were addressing her character.
“Changyu, I want to be you,” the 28-year-old wrote. “I want to be just like you: optimistic and strong. I want to be just like you: able to bravely walk down the path of the unknown. I want to be just like you: able to get back up time and time again, even if I’m knocked down. Changyu, I can be you.”
