Actress Gina Lim recovering well after surgery for colorectal cancer

Singaporean actress Gina Lim, who disclosed earlier in December that she was suffering from stage one colorectal cancer, is on the way to recovery after an operation.

The 47-year-old, who is based in Taiwan, said on social media on Dec 3 that she went for a health screening at Taitung Hospital in October and discovered a 2cm polyp in her colon.

“The doctor removed the polyp and the test result showed that it was malignant,” she said. “The doctor said I required surgery and recommended that I transfer to a hospital in Taipei.”

The doctor told her that chemotherapy was not necessary for stage one colorectal cancer as long as the affected areas are removed.

“I will be admitted to hospital for surgery in early December and will be hospitalised for one to two weeks,” she wrote then.

Lim rose to prominence in Taiwan after starring in the hit school drama series Spicy Teacher (2000 to 2004). She is married to Taiwanese actor Chang Han, 50, and they have a seven-year-old daughter.

The actress disclosed on social media on Dec 6 that she and her husband celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary earlier in 2024 due to her upcoming surgery.

Chang updated fans on his wife’s condition on social media on Dec 15.

“The fifth day after operation,” he wrote in Chinese, posting a photo of Lim at National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) in Taipei. “My wife is recovering well as she could walk around NTUH at about the same speed as me today, compared with the beginning when she could not stand the pain and had to use morphine.”

Lim posted on Instagram Stories on Dec 15 a photo of a bowl of plain porridge.

“After not being able to consume food for eight days, I can finally eat plain porridge, with tears streaming down my face,” she wrote.
