PARIS – French fashion house Dior on Monday named BTS singer Jimin, 27, a global brand ambassador, broadcasting the tie-up on social networks with images of him in Kim Jones-designed sporty looks with an outdoor flair.

Meanwhile, his rapper bandmate Suga, 29, was announced on Tuesday as Italian luxury house Valentino’s brand ambassador, joining its other representatives called Di.Vas, which stands for Different Values.

He will also be the face of the Maison Valentino Essentials campaign.

These moves come as European luxury houses look to tap the global popularity of K-pop stars, particularly with younger shoppers.

Dior, which is owned by LVMH, has also forged links with Jisoo of K-pop girl group Blackpink, drawing crowds of screaming fans to Paris when she attends the label’s runway shows.

South Koreans have become the world’s biggest spenders per capita on personal luxury goods, splashing out an average of US$325 (S$429) a year, according to analysts at Morgan Stanley.

The bulk of household wealth in the country, 76 per cent, is held in the real estate market, while housing prices increased considerably in the past couple of years, noted the analysts. REUTERS
