Bollywood legend Dharmendra, 89, was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, India, on Nov 10, according to media reports.

Though details about his health remain unclear, the news has caused worry among his fans in India.

Just last week, the veteran actor, who is primarily known for his work in Hindi films, had visited the same hospital for a routine check-up.

At that time, his wife, actress Hema Malini, had reassured everyone that he was “absolutely fine”. She had spoken to the media while leaving the city. When photographers asked about her husband’s condition, she simply gestured “okay”.

Despite those reassurances, reports of his hospitalisation have again sparked concern. So far, neither the family nor Dharmendra’s representatives have issued an official statement.

Sources close to the family have suggested that there is no reason to panic.

“Dharmendra goes for regular health check-ups and this time, too, it seems like a routine visit,” one insider reportedly told the media. “He’s doing well. Someone must have seen him at the hospital, which started all the rumours.”

Known as the “He-Man” of Hindi cinema, Dharmendra’s charm has defined generations of Hindi film lovers. From Phool Aur Patthar (1966) to Satyakam (1969) to Sholay (1975), his journey in Indian cinema has been nothing short of iconic.

Earlier in 2025, he appeared in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, alongside Bollywood actors Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon.

His next big project, Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan, will see him share the screen with Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda. The film is based on the life of Param Vir Chakra awardee Arun Khetarpal.

Dharmendra will celebrate his 90th birthday in December. THE STATESMAN/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
