SINGAPORE - British artist Tai Shani remembers Singapore in the 1980s, when her family would stop over in the city during trips from India to Indonesia.

"We were based in a rural part of India, and coming to Singapore was like travelling to the future," she recalls over a video call from London, where she teaches at the Royal College of Art.
