SINGAPORE - Dr Cham Tao Soon, the founding president of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), has a prediction: One day, everyone will need to attend polytechnic before entering university.

"Computers are getting more and more intelligent, and it is difficult for us to succeed in being better than them," says Dr Cham, 81, who was also the National University of Singapore's (NUS) dean of engineering.
