Constance Singam is best known as a civil society activist and three-term president of Aware Singapore.

Who: Constance Singam, 88, is best known as a civil society activist, thanks to her long stint at Aware Singapore. She joined the association in 1986 and was president for three terms. She has written about her life in her 2013 memoir, Where I Was: A Memoir From The Margins. The book was updated and re-released in 2022 as Where I Was: A Memoir About Forgetting And Remembering. She was inducted into the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame in 2015.
“My main source of pleasure has always been reading. As I think about the books I have read in recent times, the one theme that comes through is this: Inspiration to get the better of the challenges of old age.
