SINGAPORE – There is a wait list of several months for an audience with Mr Viral Doshi, 64, a high-flying college admissions consultant who charges up to $600 for a single counselling session.

He is famed among the Indian diaspora for getting students into the Ivy League, yet he says “disappointments with college admissions are much greater than happiness”.
