Western bias against Islam absurd, dangerous

I am extremely disappointed that former Australian prime minister Tony Abbott said that the West should proclaim its superiority over Islam ("Cultures not all equal: Abbott"; Dec 10).

These are extremely absurd, dangerous and unwise remarks about Islam.

I have always believed that it is not important if anyone has any religion. It is also not important if I do not understand any religion and its teachings. I still respect all religions and their differences.

There is no such thing as a religion or a culture being superior, because they are all different.

Western values are not superior and the West is not perfect. It should learn from Asia and learn other non-Western values too.

Non-Western countries have grown and prospered, and they should learn only the best practices from the West which work for them and discard the rest.

United States Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump has also called for Muslims to be barred from entering the country.

The problem is extremism and terror groups, and not Muslims. All governments and citizens should join forces to target extremism and terrorists, and not a culture or civilisation.
