Waive taxi-booking fees for seniors with mobility issues

THE Government has implemented many initiatives to recognise the contributions of our Pioneer Generation ("Goodies for 700,000 seniors to mark SG50"; May 23).

However, many seniors who have problems moving around by themselves may not be able enjoy some of the goodies, such as discounted visits to places of interest. Even with the help of caregivers, it is very challenging for such seniors to travel on buses or trains.

The most convenient way for such seniors to get around is by taxi, but it is difficult for them to flag down a taxi by the roadside, especially under the hot sun or when it rains.

Thus, I hope the relevant authorities can work with taxi companies here to waive taxi-booking fees for seniors with mobility problems. This will help reduce their financial burden and ease the inconvenience of travelling.
