Upgrading ideas for Raffles Place MRT

Raffles Place MRT started operations more than 26 years and the only upgrading done was a lift installation about 10 years ago.

With more commercial buildings being built in the area, the morning rush hour will be even more congested.

Here are some ways to solve this problem.

First, shop units on the control room level should make way for more escalators, as the current number of staircases and escalators cannot cope with the volume of commuters using them.

Second, two more lifts - capable of carrying at least 30 commuters at a time - should be built. These lifts should operate from the south- and west-bound platforms, going straight to the control room level.
