I can understand why some parents are discomfited by unsavoury advertisements ("Eatery's cheeky ad removed"; July 23).

Although some advertisements, especially around the Orchard Road area, are created in poor taste to grab public attention, giving the location a miss is not a solution.

If we have to avoid a place where an offensive billboard ad is put up, there will be many places which will be out of bounds to us.

Hence, to prevent impressionable children from being taken in by distasteful ads, it is imperative that parents provide them with guidance and explain why advertisers resort to such devices.

In this way, the young will be more knowledgeable and discerning when they come across obnoxious publicity materials in certain locations or on social media.
