Stop commercial vehicles hogging expressway lanes

Senior transport correspondent Christopher Tan's commentary is a timely one ("Curb speeding giants on road"; Sept 6).

We have "upsized" our expressways to five or even six lanes. Yet, regardless of whether the expressway is congested, it is not uncommon for commercial vehicles to travel in Lane 2 and use Lane 1 to overtake other vehicles, like passenger cars.

These commercial vehicles are either speeding or, if they keep to their speed limit, hogging a lane.

There is no excuse for commercial vehicles to be in Lane 2 for the majority of their journey.

I hope the authorities will look into this matter, not just on expressways but also major trunk roads.
