Steps taken to help seniors claim free travel card top-ups

WE THANK Miss Susan Tan Lin Neo for her feedback regarding the redemption of the SG50 Seniors Public Transport Voucher ("Clearer details, more help needed when plans involve the elderly"; Forum Online, last Wednesday).

Since earlier this month, notification letters have been progressively sent out to eligible senior citizens together with the SG50 Seniors package. The letters contain details of how senior citizens can redeem their SG50 Seniors Public Transport Voucher at TransitLink Ticket Offices, Concession Card Replacement Offices or Add Value Machines Plus from last Monday to Dec 31 next year.

On June 12, due to an inaccurate and anonymous SMS message about the redemption, large numbers of seniors turned up at MRT stations and bus interchanges, ahead of the official redemption period.

However, rather than turning the senior citizens away, TransitLink decided to allow early redemptions so that the senior citizens did not have to leave empty-handed.

Since the start of the redemption, we have deployed service ambassadors to 20 selected MRT stations and bus interchanges with higher volume to assist senior citizens with their redemption.

Temporary counters with signs have also been set up at these locations, dedicated to serving the senior citizens.
