The terror attacks in Paris have resulted in many casualties, with a horrific death toll ("Paris lockdown after terror attacks"; Nov 15).
As the French mourn this tragedy, it is now more important than ever that we in Singapore remain constantly vigilant and united as a nation.
In a cosmopolitan country like Singapore, with people of different races and religions living together, nothing will tear us apart more quickly during times of trouble than pointing fingers at the people of a particular group or religion.
We don't know if Singapore will one day face a crisis as terrible as the one in Paris, but should such a day come, it will only be with the utmost solidarity that Singaporeans will be able to stand together as a nation, knowing that our faith in one another will not be shaken by a terrorist group abusing religion to further its own twisted agenda.
As it was with the Sept 11 attacks in the United States, there is now even more fear propagated against our Muslim brothers and sisters. Their faith is a peaceful one. Thus, let us stand steadfast against the spreading of fear and remember that we are one Singapore, regardless of race, language or religion.
