Sports fans must accept that there are no more freebies

I, too, am disappointed at the lack of live broadcasting of the Olympics in Singapore ("Lack of live broadcast of Olympics a big disappointment" by Mr Jairam Amrith; July 28).

I attribute this to the insufficient fan base, which deters the broadcaster from providing the live telecast.

In this modern era, where popular sports are very much commercialised, broadcasting sports events live is no longer a cheap affair.

Watching big sports events live invariably entails a higher chargeable fee than a recorded one.

It is no different from watching a movie: If one wants to watch a movie for free, one would have to wait for it to be shown on free-to-air TV channels later.

We sports fans must learn to accept that there are no more freebies in this world.
