S'poreans more appreciative of foreign workers

It was good to read the article about the kind "uncle" who encouraged some foreign workers in a train to keep their seats after they tried to give them up to Singaporean commuters ("The kind uncle"; Aug 26).

I am glad more Singaporeans are showing that they appreciate foreign workers here.

Why should foreign workers feel obligated to give up their seats - unless it is to an elderly person?

Some of them are afraid and feel that they have to stand if the train is packed.

Such articles show that Singaporeans are more appreciative of the hard work these workers put in to keep our country clean and green.

I would like to say a big "thank you" to all these workers. Without them, Singapore would not be what it is today.
