In pursuing more sustainable usage of road space ("Sustainable usage of road space"; Feb 1), we could build elevated platforms on our roads and expressways to hold solar panels - just as they are doing with the "solar roads" project in France.
We could use the space above the huge areas of land occupied by bus and MRT depots - including space for overnight-parking of heavy vehicles - to build elevated platforms for solar panels.
The potential is huge and we must not dismiss such an idea without careful consideration.
I hope the Government will study and allow the installation of solar panels above our expressways to give shade and generate electricity.
To remain economically competitive and relevant to the world, Singapore must find ways and means to reduce its dependency on gas and fossil fuels.
