Sing Majulah Singapura with more pride

SINGAPORE did well at the just-concluded SEA Games, winning 84 gold medals ("Friendship the biggest winner at the Games"; yesterday).

I couldn't help comparing how the various nations sang their national anthems during medal presentation ceremonies.

Singaporeans seemed not to be very enthusiastic in singing the Majulah Singapura. They seemed to be just mouthing the lyrics, with little passion and conviction.

This also seems to be the case during the flag-raising ceremony in schools and during other important events when the National Anthem is sung.

Singaporeans have every reason to be proud of the country. So, the next time we sing the National Anthem, let us sing it out loud, with conviction and pride.
