The Bukit Panjang LRT system was designed to reduce traffic congestion and provide a link to the MRT for commuters living in the area ("SMRT looking at options for Bukit Panjang LRT"; Oct 7, and "Overhaul, don't scrap, Bukit Panjang LRT" by Mr Tan Guan Seng; Oct 11).

Removing it would cause a lot of inconvenience to residents, and may result in greater traffic congestion.

If there is a need for an overhaul, it could be done in sections, with public buses plying the routes between affected stations. Design enhancements could also be considered.

Perhaps studying what caused the Bukit Panjang LRT to be beset with problems can help to prevent similar incidents in future.
