On the Downtown Line 2's opening day ("Thousands check out DTL2 on opening day"; Dec 28), I woke up early and took the train from Tan Kah Kee station at 6.40am and reached Bayfront station at 6.58am.

To my surprise, Bayfront station is directly below Marina Bay Sands integrated resort, which is so convenient.

Another big surprise is that it took me only 18 minutes to get there.

If I had driven and needed to find a parking spot, it would definitely have taken me a lot more time.

I continued to visit the Promenade, Downtown and Telok Ayer stations.

The whole experience had a strong impact on me; I will be taking the MRT into the city from now on.

If anyone has not taken the MRT in a long time, I strongly suggest that they give it a try.

They will be impressed and surprised at the scale of underground development that has gone on and at the convenience of this mode of transport.

I congratulate the Land Transport Authority and all involved for constructing such a large MRT network for our daily convenience.
