I read with interest about the PayNow mobile payment service (Singapore to cut use of cash and go cheque-free; June 21).
Such a service must be internationally recognised and cross-border friendly.
We cannot afford to have platforms thatwork only here and are not compatible with cashless systems elsewhere.
Similarly, if vendors use only PayNow and do not accept cash payments, this will spell trouble for the tourism industry.
We should make things easy for Singaporeans and tourists, and not inconvenience users.
We should also not exclude certain segments of Singapore, such as those too poor to own a smartphone or who are not technologically savvy.
Anything that is exclusive will serve to only expand inequality in our country.
