Para Games athletes deserve more appreciation

Our Team Singapore athletes at the Asean Para Games in Kuala Lumpur have done us proud by coming home with the largest haul of medals at an away Games event (Returning to heroes' welcome; Sept 25).

After the welcome ceremony and media attention at Changi Airport, one para-athlete in a wheelchair with a middle-aged woman, possibly her mother, was seen going home by MRT.

Is this how the Singapore National Paralympic Council, Singapore Disability Sports Council and their affiliates show their appreciation for the efforts put in by our athletes?

It is difficult enough for a normal person to lug a piece of luggage onto the MRT train, what more a disabled person.

The least these organisations could have done in appreciation was to organise transport home for these athletes.
