The Land Transport Authority and Government Technology Agency are exploring a new initiative to launch a platform to tell commuters the fastest route by bus, MRT, taxi or bicycle.
I wonder if this is a prudent use of resources, given that many mobile applications can already do this.
For example, Citymapper Singapore offers the fastest route using a mix of MRT, buses and taxis, and shows the estimated cost, time taken, exit to take, and even calories burned - information which the new platform aims to provide.
Perhaps there is no need to build a new platform from scratch. Instead, the authorities should explore other possibilities that build on what the marketplace already has.
