Singapore played host to the BNP Paribas WTA Finals recently.
It was a major world tennis event.
However, except for those who had the opportunity to watch it at the Singapore Sports Hub, where it was held, most of us could read about it only in the news.
Not many people can take time away from work to watch tennis matches live at the Sports Hub during weekdays or even weekends.
Unfortunately, there was no live or recorded telecast of any of the matches on free-to-air TV.
Singapore promotes healthy living and encourages people to participate in sports.
But we missed the opportunity to showcase to the public the aspiration, sportsmanship and competition of such a major event, and promote the game of tennis.
Singapore has no dedicated free-to-air sports channel. Besides what is available through subscription, the authorities should consider making more sports events available on public TV.
