Manufacturers should be made to repair escalators promptly

The two escalators linking Chinatown Point and the Downtown Line have been down for over a month.

Why can't the company responsible for the repair air freight the parts to effect a faster repair?

I suggest that the authorities require these manufacturers to maintain sufficient parts here to carry out repairs promptly.

I understand that manufacturers of lifts and escalators do not sell parts to third-party support services, as they want to hold on to the service contract.

The authority may want to look into freeing up that supply and forcing the manufacturers to sell parts at a reasonable price, so that a third party can take over such maintenance of lifts and escalators.

This would bring down the service contract costs for all.
