Make it illegal for bakeries to throw away edible food

Every night, many bakeries discard unsold, yet still very edible, bread and pastries which are considered luxury items to poor people in Singapore.

The Government should enact a law like France's, making it illegal for bakeries to throw away edible food. Instead, this food should be distributed or donated to needy people or charity organisations.

It is understandable that bakeries worry that food donated might be mishandled or resold for profits. Thus, only government-approved organisations with strict accountability should be allowed to handle this donated food.

Let Singapore be the pioneer in enacting this win-win and eco-friendly law in Asia and end hunger in this First World country.

Hopefully, other countries will follow suit.
