I am encouraged by Singapore Post's efforts to keep up with technology by considering the use of drones in postal delivery ("It's a bird... it's a plane... it's the postman"; Oct 9).

SingPost's successful Unmanned Aerial Vehicle delivery trial has been touted as the world's first successful test by a postal service provider.

Actually, Deutsche Post DHL already conducted similar drone delivery trials in December 2013 and, in September last year, it announced the world's first regular commercial drone delivery service.

This service uses an autonomous quadcopter to deliver small parcels 12km into the North Sea, from the German coast to the island of Juist.

Nevertheless, I wish SingPost great success in its eventual commercial roll-out of such a service.
