Let kids start school later

The Ministry of Education should consider pushing school start times to 8.30am or 9am ("Don't snooze on sleep issue"; May 16).

There is little reason for schools to start at 7.30am every day when almost all schools have gone single session.

Schools that have implemented later start times, such as Nanyang Junior College and Hwa Chong Institution (every Friday), have seen very positive results.

Apart from the obvious long-term health issues, having a later start time allows parents to spend more time with their children at night after work, thus improving family ties.

I hope the authorities can look into this matter.
