I was disappointed that nothing was mentioned about supporting the carers of elderly parents when the list of measures to help Singaporean families were announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in his National Day Rally speech .
I am the main carer for both my elderly parents, who are in their 70s and 80s. Often, caregiving involves taking time from my work to accompany them for their medical appointments, or be home to care for them when they fall ill.
Would the Government consider mandating parental care leave? This could be in the form of a one-week to two-week leave per year for carers of the elderly.
