Install more cameras to curb illegal parking

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras on 60 more locations throughout the island since Oct 6 to prevent illegal parking, further improve traffic conditions and enhance road safety.

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) recently installed cameras at an open field in Yishun to monitor a group of stray dogs ("Cameras installed to monitor stray dogs"; Nov 12).

Evidently, cameras have proven to be the most effective law enforcement and deterrent tool.

The Housing Board installed CCTV cameras for 55 problem areas at the end of 2013, and said that after installation, the illegal parking problem in HDB estates significantly improved.

HDB should make full use of such proven technology to strengthen its enforcement methods and consider installing another round of CCTV cameras to ensure a safe and pleasant environment.
