How would Singapore smokers react if asked to stub it out?

While I applaud Ms Li's bravery in confronting the smoker in the lift, I was saddened to read that she was assaulted over it ("Smoker in China beats up woman in lift for telling him to put out cigarette"; Oct 23).

It made me wonder what would happen if someone did the same thing here in Singapore.

I see smokers puffing away in public places where smoking is not allowed. No one seems bold enough to tell them not to do it.

Could it result in an unpleasant confrontation?
