Joseph Schooling has done Singapore proud by winning the Republic's first Olympic gold medal ("Historic moment for Schooling, historic moment for Singapore"; Aug 14).

It was a pity that all the Singaporean athletes who competed at the Olympics did not come back together as a team, and that the entire Team Singapore did not stay on in Rio to support and cheer one another on.

We should still honour all those who competed, even if they did not win a medal. Let us not forget those who tried their best, even if they were beaten by others.
