The announcement of motorcycle certificate of entitlement (COE) premiums at $7,483 shows that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) is out of touch with what is happening on Singapore roads (Motorcycle COE prices hit new high; March 16).
The increase in demand for delivery services, such as UberEats and Food Panda, is clearly to blame for the surge in recent Category D COE prices.
The LTA must recognise the commercial nature that is driving the growth of motorcycle ownership today. The COE price has hit a ridiculous level where the average citizen is concerned.
Just like with taxis, goods vehicles and buses, the LTA must move quickly to create a category for motorcycles used for commercial purposes and remove them from general bidding.
