Extend grace period for parking

With parking charges set to rise, I hope the Housing Board and Urban Redevelopment Authority will consider extending the grace period before charges kick in, from 10 minutes to 15 minutes ("Public parking gets costlier"; July 1).

Ten minutes can be quite short, especially for motorists who do not want to park but need time to run errands, such as drop off their children, pick up their elderly parents (especially those in wheelchairs), take away food, and post letters.

Many commercial vehicles and other motorists who deliver parcels and goods will also appreciate the extended grace period.
