Don't give chances to errant retailers

I was glad and relieved to read the report on May 16 ("Shoppers to get more protection from errant retailers").

I agree with Mr Kwek Theng Swee, vice-chairman of Sim Lim Square Management Council, about the need for laws to create a fair business environment for tourists as well as local shoppers.

However, I disagree with his assertion that we should give retailers one or two chances before taking them to court.

It is important to make sure that all complaints against retailers are investigated before action is taken against them.

However, when they are found to be guilty, the authorities must immediately take action instead of giving them chances.

Let us prevent tourists and shoppers from falling victim to errant retailers who affect and tarnish Singapore's reputation.
