Constant reminders needed in tray-return endeavour

The tray-return campaign at hawker centres has not been very successful. There is still some way to go before Singaporeans buy into the idea and it becomes a good social habit.

At the ABC hawker centre in Bukit Merah recently, I saw some primary school pupils going around the tables, advising adults to return their trays after finishing their meals.

It is highly commendable to see our young Singaporeans being educated from a young age about good social habits and to learn first hand how entrenched bad habits are often hard to change.

Perhaps cleaners could wear T-shirts that say "Help me by returning trays after use". This low-cost idea might be able to help the tray-return campaign.
