The courage and heroics of Ms Silvia Hajas, a housewife and mother who saved three children struggling in the sea off East Coast Park, are indeed laudable ('No lifesaver' but her maternal instincts kicked in and she leapt; May 14).
It would have been considered a feat had it been carried out even by a professional lifeguard; what more someone like her whose maternal instincts pushed her to act.
Although her valiant efforts have been covered by the media, she has not been given any official recognition or award, not even by the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
Surely it would be timely and appropriate to recognise her efforts. Isn't there some award that can be presented to her?
