Boost security in wards to protect patients

I refer to the news report (Nursing home worker jailed, caned for molesting resident; May 23).

To better safeguard the security of patients, who are often vulnerable due to their health conditions, I would suggest that a discreet closed-circuit television camera be installed at the entrance of every ward.

The nursing home might also consider recruiting female volunteers, especially retirees with time and energy to spare, to help in the women's wards, especially during those times when nurses are away or engaged in other activities.

The above incident took place on the day when a community involvement programme was held on the first level of the home.

I hope that the nursing home will look into these suggestions.

Such an incident is tragic and should be prevented from happening a second time.
