Who: Paul Yong Teck Chong, in his 50s, a registered practising management consultant, specialising in quality, environment, health and safety management systems, and training and development.

My family: Married to an accountant, with twin sons in university.

My passions: As a proponent of healthy living, I push myself to exercise every day and to embrace a balanced diet. I enjoy seeing the beauty of nature, which is reminiscent of my growing-up years in a kampung.

I first started writing to the Forum page in...: 1993. When it was projected that 100,000 jobs might be lost in the labour-intensive industries, I proposed strategies to address this problem, including promoting quality as an effective corporate strategy for success in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

What I write about: Issues to do with social, political, economic, financial, historical, religious or cultural matters.

Why I write: I write out of conviction. The Forum page provides me with a platform to sharpen my writing and analytical skills.

I read the Forum page because...: It is good to gauge the sentiment of the community.

My wish for Singapore: As Singapore's economic viability is anchored on free trade and its open-door policy, I hope globalisation will continue to be the driving force for the world economy.

It is inevitable that some Singaporeans are left behind. I hope our inclusive society programmes can be expanded to establish an unemployment rescue fund, a corporate social responsibility initiative matched by government funding, to help the needy.
