Who: Mary Chan Pheck Li, 55, a former retail operations manager, and currently a part-time administrative assistant.

My family: Married to an aquarist, 56.

My home: A three-room HDB flat in Pasir Ris.

My passions: Yoga, swimming, gardening, watching movies and baking.

I started writing to the Forum page...: In January last year, after I left my full-time job.

What I write about: Retail issues and topics such as keeping Singapore's public toilets clean and why some foreign workers are eating stale food.

Why I write: I write hoping I can help others by sharing my views in areas I've gained deeper exposure to. There are other stories to be heard, especially the ones on the ground.

I read the Forum page because...: It can offer me insights into areas that are new to me. Basically, it offers me an avenue to learn.

My wish for Singapore: To have clean public toilets all over our island.

I also hope that all retail and service staff will be able to spend more time with their families, such as having dinner with their loved ones.

Many such employees work long hours - being on their feet all day in the shops serving others and unable to enjoy the warmth of a family dinner.

I hope shops can close earlier on weekends to allow their service staff to have more family time.
