Volunteers ensure no one is left out of festivities

Grassroots volunteers like me put in much effort to help organise festive activities throughout the year to bring cheer and encourage social interaction among residents.

The Hongbao Presentation Ceremony is one such activity which brings senior citizens and other needy residents together to celebrate Chinese New Year.

We have been heartened by the positive feedback from seniors who attended these events, with many saying that they enjoyed the performances specially arranged for them.

In addition to bringing residents together through our many events, we also organise projects and activities to raise money to help residents in financial need.

Some of the funds are given to residents through events such as hongbao distributions.

These events are also good opportunities for us to befriend them and interact with them to understand their needs, so that we can serve them better.

In our active ground engagements with the seniors, we pay special notice to those who are immobile and without additional support at home (Make it easier for seniors to receive Chinese New Year hongbao by Mr David Lee; Feb 21).

To ensure that none of them is left out of the festivities, we actively reach out to them to either ferry them to the event or send the hongbaos to their homes.

Anyone can contact the Residents' Committees or grassroots volunteers in their constituency, should they require assistance.
