Debating social and economic issues affecting seniors in Parliament is of paramount importance in our rapidly ageing society.
Hence, it is vital to have older Nominated Members of Parliament (NMPs) (NMP nominations: Submissions open today; June 4).
As seniors themselves, these older NMPs are in a better position to speak up for their peers and share their views and concerns on age-related matters, such as healthcare, housing, caregiving and employment.
There is an urgent need for us to create more social awareness of these issues and their impact on our society.
Whatever steps we take will determine whether we are truly an inclusive society.
We have many capable figures in social institutions and voluntary welfare organisations whose experience and knowledge can be tapped as we work towards a society where we can age gracefully.
