Take steps to guard against Zika

As my school is near Watten Estate, I was concerned about the recent case of Zika virus infection there. However, it is a great relief that the patient is recovering well ("Zika patient discharged from Communicable Diseases Centre"; last Wednesday).

We should do our best to prevent the Zika virus, carried by the Aedes mosquito, from "attacking" us.

Those who live in HDB flats should cover the slots for bamboo poles when they are not in use. Pails should also be turned over when they are not in use.

We should not litter, and should help look around the estate and throw litter, such as empty cups and cans, into the dustbin.

All this is to prevent stagnant water from collecting.

We all have a part to play to prevent the Zika virus from spreading further in Singapore.
