Sustainable palm-oil products available at FairPrice

We thank Mr Tan Yi Han of People's Movement to Stop Haze for complimenting FairPrice's sustainability efforts and for his concern towards the environment ("Supermarkets should sell sustainable palm oil"; last Saturday).

We are pleased to share that our FairPrice housebrand edible oils that contain palm oil, including the FairPrice premium cooking oil and vegetable oil variants, are from Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil certified sources.

Our efforts to source from sustainable sources were made following careful considerations that factor in cost, safety and quality standards, adequate supply, supply chain infrastructure, taste and consumers' demand.

While we recognise the importance of promoting sustainability, we also need to balance it with our efforts to provide affordable quality products for our customers.

Nonetheless, FairPrice is encouraged by the support we receive from the community as we continue to make progress in our sustainable practices.

Some of these initiatives include sustainable sourcing for our housebrand paper products, reduction of plastic bag use through the FairPrice Green Rewards Scheme, and the recent launch of our first FairPrice Sustainability Report, which structures and explains our sustainability efforts while also holding ourselves publicly accountable.

Environmental sustainability is an important and urgent issue that requires a holistic approach, with a concerted effort from everyone, including governments, industry players and consumers.

As a responsible retailer, FairPrice will continue to do its part for the environment and make lives better for all.
