Singaporeans must change mindset about organised dating

The mindset about dating here must change if Singapore wants to see more people get hitched ("Getting more Singaporean singles to date 'Gangnam style' "; Thursday).

We must do all we can to destigmatise dating agencies or other external help for singles to get to know other people.

I applaud the initiative taken by Senior Minister of State Josephine Teo, who was reported to be on a visit to South Korea and Denmark to study how each country encourages marriage and parenthood.

Successful dating should not be left to chance. Not everyone is lucky enough to find a life partner while studying, or at the work place or at social events.

Many Singaporeans are usually too busy building a career and may not have time to socialise.

It may take a while, but Singaporeans will warm to the idea of organised dating if it is done tastefully.

But it is important to remember: Time and tide wait for no man.
