Roll out free islandwide Wi-Fi service

With the formation of the new Info-communications Media Development Authority, Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim said that Singapore's future is digital and exciting ("New agency to help take S'pore into digital future"; last Saturday).

The Government should seriously consider requiring all Internet service providers here to provide free and full islandwide Wi-Fi coverage ("Ensure ISPs can support Smart Nation push" by Mr Chiam Sheng Shi; yesterday).

Singapore is an attractive and busy hub for business, travel and shopping. It is also one of the most wired and high-density countries in the world, with great plans for Internet of Things developments and the digital economy.

Free islandwide Wi-Fi service would benefit both citizens and travellers here.

Let us start this service as soon as possible to ignite the new exciting spirit expressed by Dr Yaacob.
