Review risks of e-scooters with pillion riders

The authorities should review the dangers posed by e-scooters and e-bikes carrying pillion riders.

An extra rider, or riders, adds to the weight of the machine, may interfere with the controls and adds to the braking distance.

The recent court hearing about the e-scooter rider who hit a pedestrian at Pasir Ris illustrated these dangers (Short detention order being considered for e-scooter rider; June 15).

Even the e-scooter instruction manual warns against carrying a pillion rider.

As for e-bikes, on occasion, I have seen some zooming by with two pillion riders, one behind and one in front of the main rider. These extra riders are exposed to great dangers on the roads.
